Travel to China, must get a return ticket ?

I’m gonna travel to China recently and today I contacted a travel agent. I was thinking of buying a one-way ticket to China and get another one-way ticket there before flying back;
but i was told that i’ve to show a return ticket if Í’m holding Australian passport (I used to be a Chinese citizen, got my OZ passport a few yrs ago though) when check-in!

It sounds weird but the agent’s very sure about that, is that true? Any comments?

Can a baby travel to Australia on mother\’s passport?

I am just willing to know if I can include the baby on mother’s passport will the baby be able to travel to australia. Or I need to get baby’s own passport and then apply for visa.
